DSLR Video Shooter

This review helped me learn things about my G85 that I probably would have overlooked. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to videography so I used this course to help me build some confidence in my work. Now I know how to create a proper work flow from the tips and tricks in this guide. Well worth the cost! Thanks Caleb!

I spent a lot of time trying to learn my camera strictly from YouTube, but the way this course is laid out made it easier to digest. Having knowledge in your equipment gives you more confidence when shooting. Thank you for this course.

I must admit, I dodnt have high expectations going into this. Many online courses by so-called experts with plenty of "experience" that tend to be awful. Not the case with this. Content was great and comprehensive and the Caleb has really good delivery and demonstrates his subject matter expertise well.

This guide is the most efficient way to speed up the time to configure properly this camera for video shooting. The four sections are very complete and well organized, and the fourth one regarding gears and external devices is a great extension. For the video topic, this guide is by far more valuable than the Panasonic manual. Well done job, and thank you very much Caleb for providing this very interesting course.

This was a great reveiw with extras. I come from the Canon world and found this review very to the point. I actually rented the camera and needed this to test the camera out. What is the point of renting a camera that you have no idea how to work, unless you have a guide like this to help? Thank again, and keep up the great work.

Purchased G85, tried reading the advanced user guide. Far too dry and boring for me to absorb. Purchased this and have learnt all I need to get started. Definitely not a deep dive but doesn't claim to be. So worth $30 AUD !!! Found Caleb's pace spot on. Highly recommend this course. If you have a G85 and want to film this is a no brainer !!!

As a absolute beginner and the G85 is my first camera, this is course was so helpful. Been watching this over and over until i understand each section correctly. However my opinion is you talk way to fast and navigate the menus way to fast to follow the first or second time around. If you have previous camera expierence, then following would be alot easier. But from a newbie perspective, slow down so we can follow one step at a time. Before i understand one setting your off on the 3rd or more. Otherwise i like the course a lot, has definitly helped me get around on G85, I would highly recommend this course. Thanks.!

I purchased the G85 through Amazon, and before it arrived my very next step was to get your guide. I have your guide for the G7 from 3 years ago and it was the best resource I could have hoped for to get me going on that camera. I didn't even hesitate to get this guide. I think the academy signup has been added since I got that guide because I didn't have an account to sign into. So it doesn't show that I have purchased the G7 guide as well, but know that I did, and I still watch it. Also, I wish I would have thought to purchase the camera through one of your links, but I don't think so well when I get excited about getting to buy a new camera. Sorry man, next time I promise I will. I've been shooting with the G7 for these 3 years now and I love it still, and will hold on to it as a B camera. I've wanted to get into Sony for their low light performance but I have not been confident enough to leave the functionality, familiarity and ease of use of the Panasonic system. The main issue I've been struggling with is wanting to get smooth motion video, but not seeing the value in a $450 - $700 gimbal purchase versus an $800 purchase of a better camera with very nice stabilization that fits my lens ecosystem. I know that gimbals have come down in price drastically, but weighing what you get for the money I can't justify buying one right now. Anyhoo, I applaud you for your charmingly entertaining and unbelievably informative guide for the G85. I get frustrated trying to piece together information about a camera reading the manual, scouring blogs and videos or any other source of information that usually contradicts something else I've seen or read, or compares a camera to another. Your guides are great and I would pay double to have you break down the features and recommended settings on these cameras. Plus, you just have a voice for radio, which makes it a pleasure to watch your guides, or YouTube videos. Well, enough with the bromance. Keep up the outstanding work. You make it possible for an upright ape such as myself to operate complex things!

As a newbie to the G85 I found the course to be very informative. I have been busy putting the recommended video settings to use over the past day. I am glad I made this purchase and can that recommend others do the same. I am sure that even more experienced shooters will pick up some helpful ideas.

This is the second camera guide by Caleb Pike that I've purchased and I'm now even more convinced this guy knows his stuff. I started by following the DSLR Video Shooter YouTube channel and enjoyed Caleb's easy going style and lots of nifty tips he shared, so getting his G7 Guide was just very natural for me, I could only hope the guide would follow the same path - and it did. Exactly the same with the G85 guide, I've downloaded the course and watched it without stopping just to enjoy even before picking up the camera. I'm looking forward to test all the settings.

Very well filmed, very well explained and although I already knew most of the stuff it was a pleasure to get the confirmation that I do things right. Also very neat hints and tips and budget recommendations in equipment. Enjoyed every minute, thank you!

I have been using SLR Photo Cameras for years and have really enjoyed doing this course to learn the more complex world of using an SLR Camera specifically to do video production. I particularly liked all the examples in the videos and while I have watched many videos on YouTube, the specific instructions on using the G85 are really helpful and will save me a lot of time and get up to speed quickly with good quality videos. This guide is easily worth its money and then some. Having delt with old DSLRs, mostly Canons, the G85 was a little intimidating. Not only is it a mirrorless camera, but it's also a Panasonic, which I wasn't to familiar with. After watching this guide, all my fears are gone. Caleb gives you an exceptionally well rounded guide on how to tackle all this camera has to offer. It's extremely well paced and covers everything a professional videographer needs to know about this camera. Plus you're able to download the videos as well as documents relating to each section. I would HIGHLY recommend this video to anyone interested in learning video for the G85. I'm beyond pleased and will definitely turn to dslrvideoshooter for any concerns I have about gear, reviews or anything relating to video production.

I learned in a weekend what would've taken weeks to figure out for myself. Having used DSLR's and HD camcorders in the past I know a little about the concepts but having them explained and specific to the G85/G80 was well worth the money. Now rather then pointing and shooting and hoping for the best I can now apply a little thought to the process and, hopefully, end up with a far better result. I've used the knowledge gained to make confident purchases of a number of accessories, which I would have otherwise agonised over and researched for days. I like the way that Caleb delivers the tutorials, he gets the information across quickly and concisely, very professional. Sometimes it's a little too fast but that's no problem as it's a video so I can pause, rewind, review and digest each section at my own pace. The advanced sound set up was a little beyond my needs as a keen amateur but who knows, I may decide to get into it some more in future and I have a great resource for tips on what is possible. This guide has also taught me that you don't have to pay top dollar for manufactures own accessories as there are some great aftermarket accessories and even DIY hacks that can work for a fraction of the cost.

I can title this review "Great for Beginners" because I am, indeed, a beginner. For years I've loved film, and have written and acted in friends' material. But I've always been super intimidated about picking up a camera because it seemed too complicated. Then I got the G85. Low and behold, my fears were coming true. What exactly do all of these symbols and dials mean? How can I make the effects I'm seeing in my mind a reality? This course has been great for me as Caleb really does a great job with breaking down the basics of this camera. The dials, buttons and menu settings do not feel like a strange wasteland anymore. I feel a lot more confident in shooting , and even made a video right after completing the course. I also really like that he doesn't try to sell you the latest, greatest expensive gear , but provides a range of options and even shows how great older (and a lot cheaper) cinema glass can look. So basically, if you're new to cameras and video....take this course! It will actually make you want to pick up your new G85 again instead of putting it down in frustration!
